Capability 03 of 07
Infrastructure & Public Realm
Retaining walls, site drainage, utility connections and the interface between private parcels and public infrastructure — defined, documented and carried to the right professionals and agencies.
What this capability addresses
The question before the work
The site-serving works that hold a property together and connect it to the city: retaining walls, drainage, utility services and the points where private land meets public infrastructure. These problems tend to surface late, stall projects and carry agency requirements of their own. SOHOXBUILT documents the existing condition, defines the actual problem, researches records and agency requirements, develops conceptual strategies and sets up the professional and agency path that resolves it.
Start here when the main question involves infrastructure or site-serving conditions around a property. Sidewalk, driveway transition, curb and frontage work is handled by our dedicated service.

Problems and project types you may bring
- Retaining walls and slope conditions
- Site and lot drainage, downspouts and overland flow
- Utility connections, service laterals and service approvals
- Private improvements that interact with public infrastructure beyond the sidewalk frontage
- Stormwater and accessibility requirements triggered by a project
- A civil or site condition that a building permit has flagged
- An infrastructure problem with no clear cause, owner or next step
Services and coordination available
What is available now
Each engagement is defined around the project. Not every service applies to every inquiry, and the scope names which do.
Condition documentation and problem definition
Documentation of the existing condition from site observation, photographs, available drawings and agency comments, and a clear statement of the actual problem: what is failing or required, what is known and what still needs investigation.
Records, requirements and conceptual strategy
Research of available utility, infrastructure and agency records and the requirements that apply, with conceptual strategy alternatives compared by owner priorities, approval path, coordination needs and likely cost drivers.
Professional handoff and agency path
A defined scope for the licensed civil, structural or geotechnical engineer, surveyor or contractor the work requires, an agency coordination plan and a preliminary implementation sequence, with SOHOXBUILT managing the owner side through delivery where included.
Onward coordination
Where a project requires surveyors, engineers, architects, contractors or other specialists, SOHOXBUILT can coordinate the appropriate parties and agency processes. Third-party professional and contractor services are separately scoped and priced unless the project proposal expressly states otherwise.
What you may receive
Depending on the agreed scope, an Infrastructure & Public Realm engagement may produce:
- Existing-condition and infrastructure diagram
- Issue definition
- Records and agency matrix
- Conceptual strategy alternatives
- Constraints register
- Agency coordination plan
- Professional handoff scope
- Preliminary implementation sequence
- Owner decision brief
Professional, survey and approval boundaries
SOHOXBUILT documents, defines, scopes and coordinates infrastructure problems; engineered design belongs to the appropriate licensed professional. A retaining wall can be documented and scoped by SOHOXBUILT while the required structural and geotechnical engineering is performed by licensed engineers. A drainage problem can be defined and its project path developed, while engineered drainage design is provided by a licensed civil professional where required. Utility conditions are mapped from available records and coordinated with the utility or agency. Surveys are provided by a licensed land surveyor, and work in the public right-of-way is subject to the agency’s own permits and inspection. SOHOXBUILT does not promise compliance or approval before the required information and professional review exist.

Start a ProjectDrawings, surveys and agency correspondence may be requested later through an agreed receipt process. Please do not send sensitive documents with your initial inquiry.
Initial inquiries are reviewed and answered personally. The initial Fit Review determines project suitability and is not itself an engineering assessment. Substantive analysis begins after the scope and engagement are agreed. Sending an inquiry does not create an engagement; that begins only with a signed scope.
